Region 5 & 6 (East Texas) Membership Meeting

06/19/2017 10:00 AM - 03:15 PM CST

  • Free

Longview, TX

Join us as we bring together constituents from Region 5 & 6 for our annual membership meeting. This annual meeting is a time for us to network and spend the day increasing our skills as TCFV provides a full date of training on vital issues. We will provide an interactive workshop on the following:

Creating Safe Spaces: Mental Health & Trauma
Research has indicated that there is a strong link between trauma and the mental health and well-being of survivors of domestic violence. Additionally, survivors with ongoing mental health issues can be re-victimized as a result of their status and may need specific supports while working with advocates in a family violence program. This session will explore the link between trauma and domestic violence as well as provide participants with tools for creating safer spaces that enhance the advocacy relationship.

Hotline Advocacy
This workshop will offer new and tenured advocates the valuable tools needed for successful hotline advocacy. Each participant will learn the elements of successful hotline advocacy and the role of an advocate during hotline calls. Participants will strengthen their skills, learn valuable safety planning techniques and have an opportunity to practice these new skills through interactive activities and group discussion.

The regional membership meeting is made possible through the OVW Grant and is offered free of charge to attendees.
